We’re excited to open submissions for the first volume of Story Strolls, a new anthology series featuring original short stories, essays, and narrative nonfiction designed for readers on the move. Volume 1 is titled North of Somewhere and will focus entirely on stories inspired by, set in, or rooted in the state of Maine.

We’re looking for strong, story-driven submissions — whether fictional or true — that capture the spirit, nuance, and emotions of Maine. This could be a small-town mystery, a coming-of-age memory, a piece of immersive journalism, or a quiet character study unfolding in a cabin or along the coast. What matters most is narrative. These are story-first submissions — we are not accepting poetry or verse.
Selected stories will be published in a professionally produced print and digital edition, with authors receiving a share of the net profits, a dedicated author page following their piece, and inclusion alongside a special Story Scape — a curated audio soundscape exclusive to readers of the book.
Submissions should be between 1,000 and 10,000 words and uploaded as .docx or PDF files. Please include a short author bio (up to 75 words) and a brief optional author note. A $6 submission fee is required to help support editing, design, and production costs.

Submissions open July 21 and close September 1, 2025. We hope to have Volume 1 published in late November.
If you have a story that carries the feel of Maine — whether grounded in truth or imagined through fiction — this is your chance to be part of a new storytelling tradition.
